Shine Varieté! Community Theatre is the marquee event of Shine Festival 2009, a youth festival supported by the National Youth Council and the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sport. From 17 June to 4 July 2009, the festival will reach out to at least 10,000 audience from different communities including an Artist in Resident program from 17 to 29 June with internationally acclaimed Japanese clown duo RONE&GIGI. This pair of award-winning duo had performed in Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Russia, Ukraine, Monaco, England, USA and Canada. Winning numerous awards like the Best Clown Award at Clowns International (U.K.), First Prize in Portland Comedy Fest (U.S.A.) and the prestigious Silver Clown Award Monte Carlo International Clown Festival (Monaco).

For the past 2 years, CircusOutreach Ltd, a local youth organisation together with SESAME Co. Ltd., a Japanese clown company, led by RONE&Gigi has been working with 18 local youths with an aim of presenting a show in the theatre.

"GO! RECA, From a Dream to Reality" is this year's festival commission. 70 minutes of family entertainment with Juggling, mime, music, comedy and many opportunities for audience participation. Showcasing two generations of performers from two countries, Singapore and Japan. Their common goal and struggles brought them together despite their different backgrounds and cultures. And their perseverance, their unwavering belief turned the impossible into reality.
